At Qasvu we have interviewed thousands of professionals on their ambitions, professional interests and ideal workplace in order to find the right match for them. Thanks to these interviews we have gained great insights on what really motivates and attracts the modern professional. Today we present the most important position traits when a professional is considering a job.
- Advancement opportunities
70% of our network members feel that they need advancement and progression opportunities in their job to stay motivated. Yes, their current task is of importance, but transparent communication of a potential future at the firm is an investment that pays dividends. This can be done by communicating defined roles within the organisation that are reached after acquiring certain requirements / competencies and by communicating internal success stories of an employee taking strides forward within your firm.
- Nice colleagues and team
This point almost feels like it goes without saying. With all the time committed to work it is pivotal that your employees feel like they get along with the people they work with. 63 % of our network members have communicated that this is of great importance for them when choosing where to work. By creating a sense of community and shared experiences your employees will build relationships that extend beyond your office walls and will make them feel a sense of shared responsibility at work. Easy-going company after-works and shared experiences like an off-site event are easy ways of facilitating relationship building and happy teams at the office.
- Flexibility
We have all read of the rise of flexible work and our data supports this trend. 51 % of our network members value flexibility at work as their top three traits. The possibility of working from home, having flexible hours and potentially even unconventional vacation days is something that attracts the modern professional. Providing flexibility is however not always easy, and we recommend that you become creative with how you provide it. The weekly work-from-home possibility might be suitable for some firms while for others flexible work hours might be the way to go. However, you choose to provide flexibility, it most likely will be appreciated by your employees.
We have also found responsibility, international exposure and a talented boss to be of importance for our networks when choosing where to work. Surprisingly, salary was quite an unpopular motivator and proves that in today’s modern world you would rather see potential rewards in the future and enjoy your journey towards that reward, than gain a quick buck today.
